Diverting Ileostomy
Diverting Ileostomy is performed during the first surgery of the Ileoanal J-pouch Procedure. Until the patient is taken off all medicine, temporary ileostomy diverts the waste content of ileum (small bowel) away from the surgically created pouch so that it can heal. Six weeks after the first surgery, in the second surgery the temporary ileostomy is reversed & regular bowel function is restored.
